December 17, 2006 return to main 2006 page

Felix has been going to an educational therapist for the last two months to work on his pre-reading skills. We thought that actual reading was a year or more away. So it came to an utter surprise that in this week's session Felix read his first words! He very carefully sounded out the following:
  1. on
  2. in
  3. if
  4. sof (An unintentional nonsense word -- the letters just happened to be there and Felix read them.)
He's very, very proud of himself and so are we!

The stats from Felix's five year old checkup:

Milo's last three baby teeth are coming in simultaneously. It's making him cantankerous at times. In between the bouts of unreasonableness, though, he's being a joy with new verbal dexterity. He loves singing and his repertoire is expanding by the day. If he can't actually pronounce a word yet, by golly he'll say the closest thing he can and plow on with the song. It's adorable!
